AT&T phone unlock: eligibility and next steps

AT&T provides an official device-unlock process for eligible phones. Review the account and device requirements first; an independent service should never be presented as AT&T itself.

Independent service notice: Official Mobile Unlocking is not AT&T and is not endorsed by or affiliated with the carrier. Policies can change; confirm current requirements directly with AT&T.
Before requesting an unlock

Common AT&T eligibility checks

  • The device should be paid off and not active on another AT&T account.
  • The account should meet applicable service and good-standing requirements.
  • The IMEI must not be reported lost, stolen or involved in fraud.

AT&T phone unlock questions

Can every AT&T phone be unlocked?

No. Eligibility can depend on the device, account standing, payment status, time on the network and whether the IMEI has been reported lost or stolen.

Does unlocking a AT&T phone erase its data?

A carrier or network unlock normally does not erase personal data. Keeping a current backup is still recommended.

Does network unlocking remove a blacklist record?

No. A network restriction and an IMEI blacklist are separate. An unlock does not clear a lost, stolen or unpaid-device report.
